What to expect from a design assistance service

Whether it’s a full top-to-bottom or a partial one, any remodeling is exciting, but always comes with questions. How to coordinate colors? What are undertones? What are cool and warm colors, and why do they need to be balanced? What to do about transitional spaces? Those are just a few of the questions you may have, and a home designer can help you sort it out.

Floorco has been serving the community for decades. This includes designers, architects, builders, real estate developers, and others. We have a large selection of flooring and home improvement inventory, with an in-house installation team. Our in-house designers will guide you through the entire process, being sure that everything aligns with your home’s style.

From our showrooms in New Orleans and Covington, LA, we serve New Orleans, LA, Covington, LA, Metairie, LA, Madisonville, LA, and Mandeville, LA. Visit us and ask about our estimates.

Your first conversation

Give the designer as much information as possible about your home, including the size and scope of the project, the overall style of the house, your lifestyle, goals, concerns, and budget. The reason the designer needs to determine the scope of the project is not to prioritize jobs--a small one is just as important as a large one--but to determine what materials and samples are needed. For instance, if the project is about flooring, they’ll need to have the appropriate samples to show you.

What you need to do

Be prepared....to talk about budget, timing, your likes and dislikes, and personal style. Talk about your lifestyle: Do you have pets or senior residents who use mobility devices such as wheelchairs and walkers? Is your family small and quiet, or large and boisterous with big family dinners or frequent entertaining? Finally--and be honest about this one: How do you feel about cleaning? Do you want something that needs only very minimal or are you okay with more frequent vacuuming or polishing?

What the designer does

They often work together with architects, structural engineers, mechanical engineers, and builders to decide how the spaces will look and function. Some will go so far as to read blueprints and sketch designs, plans, and drawings. Design services also must be current on building codes and requirements information.
